Twin bed bookcase headboard plansMate's Twin Bed & Bookcase Headboard Plans The bed...Today we want to make every inch available for storage. We decided to build our children this bed in order to optimize the storage capacity of a small bedroom without compromising play area. Having the large storage drawers under the bed uses up the wasted space usually reserved for dust balls and discarded granola wrappers. These drawers are easy to roll out hence, make it easy for any child to get his clothes or favorite toy. Derived from the captain’s bed, the mate’s bed is relatively easy to build. In fact, we have many friends who, after seeing the finished bed, loved it so much that they built one for their own children, with only minimal knowledge of woodworking. During the planning phase of the bed we designed it so it could be disassembled fairly easy; like the commercial bed. In addition, the drawer size and strength was increased, the bed structure was improved and we added a custom built look. Those were the areas that the commercial Spartan bed seemed to lack. The bed will accommodate a twin mattress in the range of 39" by 80”. Note that extra space around the mattress is allotted for bedding. In the end, we were able to build this better quality custom bed much cheaper than those low cost commercial beds that fall apart and have drawers so small that you can hardly put any clothes in them. Finish used for this project: water based Flecto Varathane Diamond Wood Finish, in a satin sheen. Overall dimensions: 41”wide x 81 ½”deep x 22” high
